Shaker Cards

You will need:

Acetate sheet Double sided

3D Foam Tape Sticky Dots
3 Fold Aperture Card Confetti (or something to shake!)

 Step by Step

  1. Place unfolded card on to flat work surface face down
  2. Cut a piece of acetate larger than your aperture by approximately 1cm all the way around
  3. Stick the acetate to the card using sticky dots covering the aperture. Stick the acetate to the inside of the card so when the card is finished you will not see the adhesive.
  4. On the inside of the card stick strips of the 3D foam taps around the aperture - do not stick the tape too close to the aperture or you will be able to see the tape from the front of the card. Try not to leave any gaps in the tape small enough for the confetti to slip through.
  5. Sprinkle the confetti into the space created by the 3D foam covering the aperture. Do not put too much confetti in otherwise they will not be able to shake!
  6. Place a few strips of 3D foam at the bottom, top and sides of the card so it will close evenly. Remove all the coverings from the foam so you are left with the sticky sides up.
  7. Carefully fold over the left hand side of the card to cover the 3D foam and aperture. Try not to tip the card, or the confetti will fall out and stick to the 3D foam.
  8. Turn card over and give it a test shake!

Tips

You can use any kind of frame to make a shaker card. Simply cover the aperture of the frame with acetate, stick 3D foam to the back of the frame and then fill with confetti. After removing the 3D foam protective tape you can stick the frame to a plain card (leave the frame flat on the table and stick the card down on to it). Shakers this way will not be concealed as with a 3 Fold Card, but will stand out from the card.

Experiment with different things to create your shaker card i.e. lavender, glitter, seeds. If using something scented put small pin pricks in the acetate to allow the scent to escape.

You can use any shape of aperture, square and rectangle are the easiest but experiment with different shapes.

If you have a shape cutter you can make your own frames for your shaker cards.
